Every year we write on the importance of safe cyber shopping, especially during the holidays. Cyber crime is sadly here to stay, and some of the tried and true precautions and safety measures remain important and critical to best practices in cyber security. Here are a few reminders, as seen on cnn.com and past blog posts on our website.

Protect your devices. Make sure you download the latest software and have strong passwords. A password manager is always helpful.

Multi Factor Authentication is critical to your cyber safety. Your email, social media, banking accounts, etc., should allow you to turn on multi factor authentication. Even if your password is obtained, your account can still remain safe.

Spot phishing scams. Beware of emails that are designed to look like they are from a retailer. Don’t click on links or download unknown attachments. We emphasize this over and over, because we still see clients getting into trouble over these mistakes. Most importantly, never provide your password.

Use safe methods for purchases. Look for https, not just http. Never use public WiFi when purchasing online. When possible, use a credit card, not a debit card for purchases, so that you do not leave your bank account vulnerable.

As always, reach out to us with any questions, and stay safe!
