Our latest tech tips are Apple related. Though many of our customers do not use Apples for business, iPhones and iPads are used by many of our customers and they periodically have questions about the usage of both.

Our first tip concerns the iPad, which some of you may have received for the holidays. Walter Mossberg, of the Wall Street Journal, recently answered a reader’s question about opening Microsoft Office files on the iPad 2. His opinion was that you do not need an app to open and read documents, since the iPad comes with a built-in viewer for Microsoft Office files. If, however, you are opening, storing and editing the files, you might need an app. A good bet is QuickOffice Pro HD, costing about $20. Mossberg also suggests the tablet version of Apples’ iWork suite, which comes in three separate apps at $10 each, one for word processing, one for spreadsheets and Keynote for presentations.

The next tip is for the iPhone and is sure to get you charged, pardon the pun. A local Philly company, CaseInity (www.caseinity.com), has captured a lot of attention with its new Cord-on-Board case for the iPhone 4/4s. It incorporates an iPhone USB cord within its case and has the ability to charge on-demand, providing unlimited charging accessibility. At $29.99, this reasonable price includes a case, customized sized cord and screen protector. Surprisingly, the case is not bulky, but thin and light. The website is not yet offering information on how and where to buy, but we’ll keep checking!
