The end of the year is a good time to review the state of your business’ cyber security. 2017 has been a tough year for companies inundated with ransomware attacks. Malwarebytes sponsored a report conducted by Osterman Research in June of 2017 that surveyed more than 1,000 SMBs on the state of ransomware in their companies.
- In the last 12 months, 22% of organizations have had to cease business operations immediately because of ransomware. 81% experienced a cyber attack. 66% experienced a data breach. 35% were victims of ransomware.
- Downtime has proven to be the worst result of ransomware on businesses. 1 in 6 experienced 25 or more hours of downtime. 90% of infections resulted in 1 hour or more of downtime.
- Although most SMBs believed that they only needed technology (not training) to protect themselves, 2017 proved that technology was not enough. Training employees on cyber safety is just as important.
