The end of the year is a good time to review the state of your business’ cyber security. 2017 has been a tough year for companies inundated with ransomware attacks. Malwarebytes sponsored a report conducted by Osterman Research in June of 2017 that surveyed more than 1,000 SMBs on the state of ransomware in their companies.

  1. In the last 12 months, 22% of organizations have had to cease business operations immediately because of ransomware. 81% experienced a cyber attack. 66% experienced a data breach. 35% were victims of ransomware.
  2. Downtime has proven to be the worst result of ransomware on businesses. 1 in 6 experienced 25 or more hours of downtime. 90% of infections resulted in 1 hour or more of downtime.
  3. Although most SMBs believed that they only needed technology (not training) to protect themselves, 2017 proved that technology was not enough. Training employees on cyber safety is just as important.
