The Covid19 virus has turned the world upside down, including business and the role of IT, forcing businesses to take a closer look at their IT infrastructure.  According to mspalliance.com, MSPs are seeing a surge in customer activity as we near the end of the third quarter of 2020, and as schools and businesses reopen and navigate the new normal. To support both in-house and remote workers, organizations are turning to the MSP for comprehensive support, not average break-fix, when there is a problem. With the exorbitant rise in Covid related cybercrime, this comprehensive support is now essential.

A recent article in ZDNet.com listed the various types of cybercrime now surfacing or “disturbing statistics that will keep you awake at night,” that are Covid related. Included in this list is the increased number of unsecure desktops that has risen by more than 40%. RDP (remote desktop protocol) attacks grew by 400% in March, alone. Email scams, where hackers use the pandemic to scam people clicking on links in emails, rose by 667%. In addition, tens of thousands of Coronavirus domains are being created, most of which are scams. Malicious files with the word “Zoom” have increased by 2000%. The numbers go on and are staggering. We cannot stress enough the importance of being hyper aware and diligent with your IT and using it to your best advantage.

Waytek’s CEO, Brian McDonnell, warns that companies using their IT infrastructure as “status quo ” now have to devise new strategies and having just a break-fix relationship with your MSP won’t work. Businesses and organizations need someone monitoring, thinking, planning and protecting their company’s assets 24×7, so that one small breach doesn’t create havoc. McDonnell is seeing companies coming to Waytek in a panic, needing to ensure they have an MSP watching their back.
